Ilford, London’s Hamzah Sheeraz KOs Munich’s Alem Begic in Giza

Hamzah Sheeraz, 26, of Ilford, London, England, United Kingdom is the new World Boxing Organization (WBO) World Super Middle Champion. He won the title at “Glory in Giza” at the Pyramids of Giza in Giza, Egypt on May 23, 2026.

There were 10 professional boxing bouts on the “Glory in Giza” card. One was between Sheeraz and Alem Begic, 39, of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Germany, who competed for the then vacant WBO World Super Middle title.

Luis Pabon served as the referee while Mikael Hook, Bence Kovacs and Danrex Tapdasan were the judges. The referee stopped the fight after 2 minutes and 33 seconds in the second round when Sheeraz knocked out Begic.

The loss broke Begic’s undefeated record. He now has 29 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw.

On the other hand, Sheeraz is still undefeated and now has 23 wins, 0 loss and 1 draw. After beeing Begic, the English boxer called out Canelo Alvarez, 35, of Mexico.

“Glory in Giza”

Commissioned by the Egyptian Professional Boxing Association, “Glory in Giza” was promoted by Spencer Brown, Eddie Hearn and Sergey Lapin. The matchmaker was Tom Dallas.

Thomas Trieber was the ring announcer while Todd Grisham, Adam Smith, Darren Barker and Barry Jones were the television announcers. Jamie Ward conducted the post-fight interviews.

In the main event, Rico Verhoeven, 37, of the Netherlands challenged World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, 39, of Ukraine. The challenger lost to the defending champion via technical knockout after 2 minutes and 59 seconds in the 11th round.

Including Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, England, Germany, the Netherlands, Ukraine, a total of 15 countries were represented. The others were Australia, Cuba, France, Indonesia, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, Uganda, United States and Uzbekistan.

Begic was born in Srebrenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He is now based in Munich, Germany.
