🇺🇸🇷🇺🇺🇦 Bloomberg: #BlackRock has suspended its efforts to raise capital for a #multibillion-dollar #Ukraine recovery fund after Donald #Trump’s election victory signalled a cooling of US support for Kyiv.

The fund was expected to launch at next week’s Ukraine Recovery #Conference in #Rome. However, BlackRock paused #investor outreach to potential partners in January due to uncertainty over #Ukraine’s future and declining institutional #interest.

So, Justin Trudeau, Canada's Prime Minister almost single-handedly dragged the #Liberal party's support from the public into the basement. The party is unpopular, but #Trudeau, the party leader, is amazingly, incredibly unpopular.

This has been going on for some time. He's got far too much #pride and #ego to resign and let new blood take over the party; he's going to take them into the next #election, where the party will be absolutely decimated [*].

He's getting desperate. Not desperate enough to resign, but desperate enough to be throwing anything and everything at the problem, hoping something will stick.

A few months ago, he announced the #government would be sending working Canadians a one-time $250 #cheque. There is no more obvious vote-buying attempt than this (though it won't work). The country is already running #multibillion-dollar #deficits, so this is just borrowing more money from future generations, with #interest, to give to voters today.

#Chrystia #Freeland, Canada's Finance minister, was against it. The government's financial position then got worse. They *needed* to cancel this plan, but Trudeau wouldn't budge. So she resigned today, hours before she was to give an update on the country's economic status in the House of #Commons, as she refused to endorse his vote-buying plan.

#Astute observers will note this is yet another female minister forced out of his #cabinet. This makes at least 3.

[*] not the literal 10% version, you pedant.
