Hester Creek Grenache Syrah Mourvedre 2022 is Delicious – MyWinePal

If you are thinking about sipping a ripe, juicy, delicious red wine, this wine, Hester Creek Grenache Syrah Mourvedre 2022, is a wonderful option.  It's a blend of 45% Grenache, 38% Syrah (includes 2% of co-fermented Viognier), and 17% Mourvedre from their Vineyard Eleven. The wine was aged 14 months in 100% French oak.  2022 started off as a difficult year with a cool spring and more rain than usual, but by summer, temperatures rose and lasted into the autumn, extending the season with the warmest September and October on record.

2021 Cline Cellars Mourvèdre Ancient Vines

$13.99 / 88

Dry-farmed
One hour twenty-five minute decant

Translucent cherry on the pour, medium to deep purple in the glass with significant legs. Nose of stewed blackberries, smoke, perhaps cigar box. Medium bodied, dry, spicy acidity, delicious dark fruit, black pepper. Soft, powdery tannins. A little graphite on the back end, medium finish.

Had with charcuterie featuring mushroom Brie, Blue, Gouda and white cheddar cheeses, uncured Varzi salami, Asian pear, golden raisins, dried cranberries, black olives and smoked salmon. The wine goes well with the salami and cheeses, not so much with the salmon (no surprise there) or the pear. Anything salty is good.

I think the 2020 we had 4+ months ago was more complex and better, but this is a $13.99 bottle so it’s hard to find fault with it. I’d definitely buy it again, though I’d search for the 2020 first.

Served in the big Cabernet glasses, cuz I loves them so.

@pleasethepalate If the oak is neutral, does it matter whether it's French or American?

I love the textures in this #photo: #mourvedre #grapes, coloring up nicely; shaggy brown #vines; green #leaves showing the first signs of autumn colors. The #2023harvest hasn't started yet at #TablasCreek, but it's imminent.
