2021 Cline Cellars Mourvèdre Ancient Vines
$13.99 / 88
Dry-farmed
One hour twenty-five minute decant
Translucent cherry on the pour, medium to deep purple in the glass with significant legs. Nose of stewed blackberries, smoke, perhaps cigar box. Medium bodied, dry, spicy acidity, delicious dark fruit, black pepper. Soft, powdery tannins. A little graphite on the back end, medium finish.
Had with charcuterie featuring mushroom Brie, Blue, Gouda and white cheddar cheeses, uncured Varzi salami, Asian pear, golden raisins, dried cranberries, black olives and smoked salmon. The wine goes well with the salami and cheeses, not so much with the salmon (no surprise there) or the pear. Anything salty is good.
I think the 2020 we had 4+ months ago was more complex and better, but this is a $13.99 bottle so it’s hard to find fault with it. I’d definitely buy it again, though I’d search for the 2020 first.
Served in the big Cabernet glasses, cuz I loves them so.
