Apparently I didn't bother to collect all the toots about this into a single thread, but my scrappy ESP32-based Bluetooth keyboard is now entirely functional. It still needs a battery and a case that slides out from my phone, but it pairs via Bluetooth, sleeps when unused, and reconnects after sleep or power loss.

It definetly feels good to manually verify my hardware working with my custom Ethernet Firmware to isolate the issue to LwIP.
I could definetly capture some nice wireshark screenshots of "invalid" DHCP packages being sent with a checksum of 0 for my bachelor thesis.
I now know, that isc-dhcp-server(on pfsense) accepts these DHCP requests, unbound-DHCP(on OPNsense) doesn't and whatever a generic GLinet router uses also doesn't accept it.

On Thursday, three of the lead Raspberry Pi engineers hosted an AMA on the r/engineering subreddit. Raspberry Pi 6 One of the most interesting tidbits was on the Pi 6. Looking back at previous launches: 2012: Raspberry Pi 2015: Raspberry Pi 2 (+3 years) 2016: Raspberry Pi 3 (+1 year) 2019: Raspberry Pi 4 (+3 years) 2023: Raspberry Pi 5 (+4 years) Following that cycle, one would expect a Pi 6 3-4 years after the Pi 5, which would put it in 2026 or 2027.

The hardware of the new module for my DIY #synthesizer is ready, now I need to finalize the firmware. The noise generator already works. Besides that the module has a complex oscillator and a LFO. Reason for the dense functionality is the used #microcontroller, the STM32F303K8. That board offers 3 DACs, means it can generate 3 different analog voltages. The 303 under the microcontrollers.

I made some needed upgrades to the Cooputer (runs heating, cooling, & door on chicken coop) over the weekend. It looks up local civil twilight times from NOAA API instead of calculating, which proved inaccurate. Also added more commands, more feedback on the web interface, & a reboot option. #chickens #diy #microcontroller

Diashow mit Gaspedal

Fotos sind dazu da, gezeigt und angesehen zu werden. Jedenfalls hat das Zeigen und Ansehen von Fotos in Teilen meiner Familie einen sehr hohen Stellenwert (einen noch höheren hat nur das Erstellen von Gruppenbildern). Bei größeren Familienfeiern kann man Leuten also eine Freude damit machen, Fotos irgendwie zu präsentieren. Die Kunst besteht dann darin, eine Form zu finden, die die Fotos zwar allen zugänglich macht und auch ein gemeinsames Ansehen ermöglicht, aber nicht alle ins kollektive Diashowschauen nötigt. Zum 70. Geburtstag eines Elternteils habe ich mir also die Mühe gemacht, dafür eine Lösung zu finden: Ein Fernseher, ein Laptop, ein umgebautes Lenkrad-Pedal – fertig ist die interaktive Foto-Diashow: Auf einem Fernseher im Foyer läuft eine Art Diashow. Als Untertitel erscheint (soweit bekannt) Datum und Anlass des jeweiligen Fotos. Die Fotos werden zufällig aus einer manuell kuratierten Liste gewählt. Falls Fotos besonders interessant oder diskussionswürdig sind, gibt es eine Möglichkeit, die Diashow zu pausieren oder auch zurückzublättern.
