#Nazi forces committed innumerable #WarCrimes, including the destruction of cultural sites. On #ThisDayInHistory in 1943, an infantry division destroyed the #MegaSpilaio (#ΜέγαΣπήλαιο) monastery, executing 22 monks & visitors. The site had to be rebuilt completely after the war.

The Mega Spileo Monastery near Kalavryta in Greece. It is built vertically on a rocky mountain, with great views and an interesting story.

Inside there is a cave with a depiction of the dragon that people fought before the monastery was built.
