@alcinnz @ajroach42 (Dr. Marshall) Kirk McKusick is on record from MeetBSD 2014 that if he had a time machine, he would go back and make IPv4/48-bit addressing the winner (this was apparently prototyped as IPv3):

Also with context about how NCP had 8-bit addressing.

Berkeley apparently always advocated for 48bit IP addresses, but they lost that debate. ;(

Kirk McKusick - A Narrative History of BSD

YouTube

Birth of #bhyve: #MeetBSD 2010. They walked away with the conclusion that there is no permissively-licensed hypervisor.

Neel and Peter formally announce #bhyve at BSDCan 2011.

My books packed up for shipping back home after #MeetBSD.

Did this table always sag?

Writing my #MeetBSD presentation has brought all sorts of old stuff to mind.

One ISP I ran had two routers, Rocky and Bullwinkle. Their job was to get packets through.

The #OpenBSD packet filters/traffic shapers were called Boris and Natasha. Their job was to stop moose and squirrel.

Nerd humor is the worst. Especially mine.

Burned up all my oomph hauling #af3e into the #MeetBSD sponsor room. Thankfully had help from nice people.

Lots of nice people here, but it's 11AM and I'm already pooped.

Just going slow.

Stupid thyroid.

I'm collecting #FreeBSD history for my #MeetBSD talk.

What are interesting challenges the FreeBSD folks have faced since inception? I have several, but have probably forgotten many.

(I'm collecting OpenBSD as well, but they have their bard record their sagas, so their history is much more documented.)

EVERYONE! SUBMIT BETTER TALKS THAN ME!

Don't make the MeetBSD committee say "Well, this talk is iffy, but Lucas has this dubious Internet sorta-fame, so... yeah, we'll take him, I guess?" Give #MeetBSD a good program, submit TODAY!

Turns out #meetbsd has a harassment/abuse policy, so there goes my last excuse.

Submitted two talks: one techy, one keynotey.

Of course, my life will be easier if they both get rejected.

Finally looking over #MeetBSD talk submissions and not really sure y'all understand how this works. Submit more talks! https://www.meetbsd.com/call-for-papers/
