he/him. So many interesting things to know and do. At the moment, spend my free time as an #OpenBSD hacker, #Perl programmer, and fan of pockets.

Also, I've been sitting on this archive for far too long. Screw it. Be bold. Ask for forgiveness, not permission. It's back online. The world deserves this (even if the Flash doesn't work).

This is the #Ploopy Bean, a pointing stick, also called a "nub mouse", and it just launched!

In case you don't know, a "pointing stick" or "nub mouse" is the little dot in the middle of most laptop keyboards. The Bean takes this design to its full potential.

And of course, it's 100% open-source!

For full details, check out our blog post about the Bean: https://blog.ploopy.co/the-bean-is-here-435

The #eurobsdcon 2026 Call for Papers is still open!

Submit by June 20th, come to Brussels September 9-13 and mingle with #BSD people!

We also offer pre-submission guidance/mentoring, see the CFP text.

EuroBSDCon 2026

I think I've mostly gotten the machine transitioned from TrueNAS to stock FreeBSD + vm-bhyve + iocage. Still need to figure out a few services as the Nextcloud jail started as a "plugin" and stock iocage is getting confused. Probably just try to figure out moving the data into a newly configured jail. Plus need to set up NFS to share some things still.
Is there a nice recommended #FreeBSD daily / weekly / monthly job with things that TrueNAS did? Like regular smart short tests and zfs scrubs?
Making progress. Got my main zpool imported and trying to reproduce what I tested working to move VMs to vm-bhyve and instead:
```
GEOM_PART: integrity check failed (zvol/ztank/bhyve/stats/disk0p4, BSD)
```
ahh, because things got mounted so need to unmount (or reboot).

Now I got it partitioned, but screwed up the networking. Now it won't let me re-partition on the next go-around.  â€‹

#FreeBSD

Dangit, the #FreeBSD installer foiling me again. Trying to install onto a zfs root mirror, choosing "Force 4k Sectors" (the default) says "gpart: Invalid alignment param: Invalid argument". Turning _off_ forced 4k sectors says "newfs_msdos: Invalid bytes/sector (520): must be 512, 1024, 2048, or 4096".
