I thought the little MeDaka fish were doing good. We started them in a smaller rain-water collector along with the water grass. After they seemed to have laid eggs we moved some of the water grass to this bigger container. And then we had eight or so new Medaka fish from the four of five we had impulse bought. They made it through last winter, they'd didn't need any equipment or electricity.. Eventually we forgot to feed them, I stopped pouring new water in from up high to aerate the water. But the still seemed to be living just fine. We forgot about them with all the new chicks I guess and now there only seems to be this one skinny fish left.. The poor thing! We drop in food every once in a while now... We should really raise the native species of Medaka, and maybe Dojo (the most protein of any freshwater fish!! Could be insurance against a downed grid!).. So these orange store-bought fish just provided training... Who knew they could over-winter, or survive this long with no aquarium equipment? But now we know they DO need a minimal amount of care...
