donkey herder, fowl friendTonight’s photographic subjects during Chicken Hour: Mary (quite contrary), Beyoncé with the three quarters regrown tail, and Presley. Mary is a Rhode Island Red, almost as loud as Ninja the copper Maran but infinitely more complain-y. She’s constantly hoping for something just a bit better from me 😂
After Bey lost all of his tail feathers, he molted out half his neck feathers too. He was so bedraggled, but his new feathers will be worth it. I think his grey tail feathers will have more silver spangling them, and it definitely looks like his neck is coming in russet and black along with the white and black. I love roosters 🤩
And Presley is already gorgeous! He was a spring hatchling so he’s not even a year old. He’s a crossbreed so he doesn’t have the full Polish head of hair but he’s got that absurd amount of face-meat to make up for it. I think she said his mother was a copper Maran but I’m amazing at forgetting things sometimes. He sure looks like a Polish x copper Maran, so let’s call him that. #chickens #Mastochickens

For context, the hen in the front is one of three newcomers, and it took a couple of days until they got their pecking order sorted out.
