It's incredible how storylines that seemingly couldn't be further apart are brought together. And I can't stop laughing: Lynch unleashes all his humor—absurd, quirky, turned up to eleven. Also, the pacing! Again and again, the characters are extraordinarily written and performed. And then the ending—what?!
After all these years, the relationship between Nadine, Ed, and Norma finally finds its resolution—and Otis Redding is there too. Brilliantly acted, fabulously edited, and wonderfully staged. Then, a deep plunge into darkness—Lynch loves contrasts. Superb editing, impressive cinematography and effects.
When Cole called Truman in Twin Peaks, I knew we were heading into the home stretch. And indeed: the storylines begin to converge. Sensational: Monica Bellucci, the Black Lodge, scenes, atmosphere, and the power of storytelling.
Lynch is in full comedy mode here and seamlessly shifts to the sinister in the next segment, without ever feeling out of place. Maybe that's comedy too — yes, it definitely is comedy. And at the same time, it's a celebration of coffee and cherry pie.
I am impressed by the timing and atmosphere that is created even in dialogue scenes. I could watch the FBI quartet for hours. More than just one scene unfolds the typical Lynchian comedy here. The appearance of a returning character delights with all its details, subtleties, and quirks—as if not a single day had passed since the second season. This is the episode of long dialogues, and it is magnificent.
This one picks up on the recurring themes in Lynch's work: coffee and pie, the fantastic and surreal, and the darkness of small-town America.
This episode deals with human nature and makes explicit—sometimes in very drastic ways—what has always been present in the narrative: men are portrayed as self-absorbed, violent, and toxic, without any awareness of the harm they cause.
Even if I repeat myself: Lynch's direction of the actors is simply impressive. The acting is so precise and convincing. Andy and Lucy still seem as if they're living in their own little world. In this episode, the magic of storytelling and the wonderful dynamics between the characters take center stage.
The series transitions into its centerpiece with "She's Gone Away" by Nine Inch Nails. Lynch visualizes the emergence of the Black Lodge and BOB, presenting the fundamental origin story. The episode unfolds an otherworldly beauty and horror that I have only briefly experienced in other great works of art. It is transcendental – an exceptional highlight in my entire history of watching series.
Finally! I'm glad Hawk gets so much screen time. I've always thought he was an interesting character who didn't receive enough attention. The scenes with Albert and Gordon are great, too. I love how many scenes are shot in long takes. The episode is exciting and has dark undertones.
