We believe too many of Glasgow's most interesting historical events are ignored simply because they're not true. When you are GLAIKIT, you don't let a little thing like the truth get in the way of telling a good story!

1938 – Ireland Pavilion, British Empire Exhibition, Glasgow
Architect: Jones & Kelly
A temporary city, constructed in Bellahouston Park, of striking modernist architecture, wide boulevards, and water features. Opened on the 3rd of May by King George VI. Although not a financial success

Decorative stone from Kiloran House set into a wall of Glasgow Clyde College Anniesland on Hatfield Drive in the west of Glasgow. Designed by Stewart and Paterson, Kiloran House was constructed in 1905 and was demolished in 2007. I'm presuming these are the initials of James Thomson Tullis, for whom it was originally built, and this and a couple of other similar carved stones are the only traces left of this once grand house.

A ghost sign on a doorway at 37 Virginia Street in Glasgow. I love coming across the remains of old hand-painted signs like this.

I love it when old street furinture is left in place when streets get renovated. This great example is from Oswald Street in central Glasgow. I really want to know what it used to be for as the instructions on it are very precise, but are now rather cryptic given how this area has changed over the years.

Some of the clay pipes I found alongside the Forth and Clyde Canal in Maryhill this evening. My two favourites are in the bottom row: An anchor (middle left) and a face (middle right).
Almost all the pipes have a stamp on the stem saying Murray on one side and Glasgow on the other (second picture). This indicates they were made by William Murray between 1833 and 1861 (or 1891 depending on the source!).

Albert Cross on the southside of Glasgow.
This was once the commerical centre of the Victorian burgh of East Pollokshields. It was marked by fine tenements built in the late 1800s, three of which featured corner bay windows with impressive turretted roofs. After fires in 2020 (middle) and 2019 (right), only one of these distinctive turrets remains standing (left).

It's depressing to see yet another bit of Glasgow's architectural heritage being torn down.
This c-listed art deco building was deemed beyond repair and is being demolished to be replaced by flats. The only redeeming feature is that at least they will be social housing rather than private flats.

Lone Survivor.
The former British Linen Bank building at 215 High Street in Glasgow. Built in 1895 from a design by James Salmon and Son, it is the last building from its era standing on this block.
