If you like birds, watch this short video.
It takes the Limpkin a bit of time to settle down after carefully moving sticks, dead plants, and her eggs around the nest. She doesn't get it right immediately, but it eventually works out :) 🪶

A Limpkin showed up in an adjacent county last week. Since we had not seen one since 1998(!), we decided to chase it yesterday.

It turned out to be quite cooperative. Here are a few pictures my wife took.

Limpkin Couple

It was a bittersweet return to Myakka River State Park after its double-destruction, first the Weir, and then Hurricane Ian…

But it is spring, nature is eternal & resilient, and nesting season is here.

I saw none of the usual spoonbills & glossy ibises, and few herons, though gators were abundant, along with anhingas & limpkins.
