For my first time I've ordered an #audiobook — actually, two: both 'Reverse Centaur' and @pluralistic's previous publication 'Enshittification'. I pledged a #Kickstarter donation for the former, receiving a copy as a premium for doing so. I also picked up a copy of the latter to listen to while driving, despite already having a signed hardcover, thanks very much Cory. Both are being sent to me by way of the very cool #libroFM audiobook library & app, for which I have a discount code if anyone wants to check it out (not going to post it bc that'd be spam but DM me please if you want).

AI, its branding and imposition, must be repelled. Its intentions are #surveillance & #dataCollection, #propaganda & #manipulation, the murder of #labor and the #public #economy and, by way of its required build-out of massive-scale #dataCenters, theft of public-funded electricity and Earth's virtually entire supply of drinking water among other #publicGoods, and the generation of extreme, deadly, global heat. What else is missing from this description of the #AIatrocity? The deflection from actual social priorities: Not just parasitic & deadly but also immoral. And really Doctorow's primary point I think, is that it makes no economic sense at all. An industry without benefit.

Getting real tired of trying to buy audiobooks on Libro.fm, only to find out it's an Amazon exclusive.

I absolutely refuse to touch Amazon. I bought a Kobo instead of a Kindle for a reason and it wasn't because Kobo was cheaper (it wasn't - same with Libro.fm).

I wanted a music player for travelling, so my phone wouldn't be sucked empty so quickly.

I bought a very not-smart thingy that does NOT have and ancient android on it, takes micro-sd cards, is surprisingly fine with ogg and flacc, and the battery can take 18h of use and not even be half empty. Perfect. 👍

But 2 days ago a pre-ordered #audiobook was released, and I want to listen to it ASAP!

Luckily, I left audible for #LibroFM, and had pre-ordered it there. I just downloaded a bunch of mp3s of not only my pre-ordered book, but also the rest of the series, put them on my music player, and will not have to worry about my entertainment until I make it home. 🤍

The author uses scientific research to walk through strategies for writing with impact. A great read no matter what you’re writing.
