Hey Fediverse, #bookstodon #bookstodongermany #blackmastodon #transtodon #leftodon
I talked my #neoliberal flatmate into reading some books about #feminism / #queerfeminism / #blackfeminism or similarly #leftwing books which would challenge his worldview.

Would you mind recommending some books for this purpose? #bookrecommendation

------------------------------------------------------------

There is a LOT to challenge. Some of his opinions:

* There is no structural #racism , only bad people and Nazis are racist (He is obviously not racist) i.e. introduction to #CriticalWhiteness

* You can get rich without #exploiting people

* Colonialism is bad, but it is in the past. We should put it behind us (and #Capitalism has nothing to do with #Colonialism )

* Everything is getting better with time/Society is always moving forward (whitewashed #history )

* There are only two biological sexes/binary biological sex exists ( #trans #genderstudies )

* The police is good for society and reduces crime (and racial profiling is okay apparently) #Abolition #Abolitionism

* What is #intersectionalism ? Never heard of it.

* #communism failed because it is doomed to fail, not because the USA intervened with military whenever there was an attempt at it.

* #Liberalism is no ideology, it is the center, between left and right, and therefore the best option because it can't be extreme.

#Germany didn't profit from Colonialism. Anyway after the 2nd World war we had nothing and we rebuilt germany on our own.

------------------------------------------------------------

Pls boost if you ever wanted to give a #liberal a reading list to challenge their views...
(Also books with #german perspectives would be awesome, because we're based in Germany and its too easy to put all the problems "somewhere else")

Some Books I thought about recommending him:

* Whipping Girl (Julia Serano)

* Was weiße Menschen nicht über #Rassismus hören wollen aber wissen sollten (Alice Hasters)
(Translates to: What white persons don't want to hear about racism, but should know)

* The Dawn of Everything (David Wengrow, David Graeber)

* At The Café conversations on #Anarchism (Errico Malatesta)

* #Abolitionismus - Ein Reader (Suhrkamp)

* Capital in the Twenty-First Century (Thomas Piketty)

Does #leftist #youtube like not use hashtags on twitter or what? I got a bit of a bone to pick with them, which is that plz to put text labels/commentary in the middle or top of videos, because generally captions, praticularly automatic ones, are at the bottom of the screen.

#accessibility #leftodon

At its best, #leftodon feels like huddling in the ABC Café and excitedly chattering over strategy and recent events with your comrades, and that's a really fun feeling
