Al culmine dell’ennesima lite familiare ha prima cercato di strangolare la moglie, poi di soffocarla con un cuscino. A salvarla è stato solo l’intervento della madre, in casa al momento dell’aggressione, che ha permesso alla figlia di scappare chiamando poi i soccorsi.
È quanto successo nella serata del 2 giugno a Volvera, nel Torinese, dove i carabinieri sono intervenuti nell’abitazione di una coppia immobilizzando e arrestando un uomo di 51 anni con l’accusa di tentato omicidio aggravato e maltrattamenti in famiglia. La donna è stata trasportata all’ospedale di Orbassano dove è ricoverata in osservazione ma non in pericolo di vita.
Secondo quanto ricostruito dagli agenti, coordinati dalla Procura di Torino, la donna è riuscita a sottrarsi dalla presa del marito grazie all’aiuto della madre. Subito dopo è fuggita dalla vicina di casa in attesa dell’arrivo delle forze dell’ordine.
Dalle prime testimonianze raccolte, è emerso che il litigio era solo l’ultimo di una lunga serie, mai denunciata prima. L’uomo, un ingegnere, si trova ora nel carcere Lorusso e Cotugno di Torino: stando a quanto riportato da La Stampa, aveva accettato le richieste della moglie di lasciare l’Ungheria per venire a lavorare in Italia. Una volta arrivato in Piemonte però, non è riuscito a trovare un impiego, mentre la donna stava a casa per badare alla madre anziana. La situazione ha aggravato le liti e le discussioni che pare fossero all’ordine del giorno.

At the height of yet another family argument, he first tried to strangle his wife, then suffocate her with a pillow. His mother’s intervention saved her, being at home at the time of the assault, allowing his daughter to escape and then calling for help.

This is what happened on the evening of June 2nd in Volvera, near Turin, where police intervened at the home of a couple, immobilizing and arresting a 51-year-old man on charges of aggravated attempted murder and family violence. The woman was taken to Orbassano hospital, where she is being kept under observation but is not in danger of death.

According to investigators, coordinated by the Turin Prosecutor's Office, the woman managed to break free from her husband’s grip thanks to the help of her mother. Immediately after, she fled to a neighbor’s house awaiting the arrival of law enforcement.

From the initial testimonies collected, it emerged that the argument was just the latest in a long series, never previously reported. The engineer husband is now being held at the Lorusso and Cotugno prison in Turin: according to La Stampa, he had agreed to his wife’s request to leave Hungary and come to work in Italy. Once he arrived in Piedmont, however, he was unable to find employment, while his wife stayed home to care for her elderly mother. The situation exacerbated the arguments and discussions that seemed to be commonplace.

AGI - The defense of Western democracies is no longer played only on geographical borders, but also – and especially – in the cyber and media space. This was the central theme of the conference “Europe facing the challenge of hybrid and cognitive warfare: responsibility of information,” held in Rome at the headquarters of the European Parliament. The meeting brought together representatives from European and national institutions, journalists, academics and security and innovation experts, including Rita Lofano, director of AGI, Andrea Malaguti, director of La Stampa, and Giorgio Rutelli, deputy director of Adnkronos, to reflect on the strategies necessary to strengthen democratic resilience and pluralism.

Modern hybrid wars exploit a lethal mix of technological tools, social media platforms, artificial intelligence, propaganda and cyberattacks with a precise objective: to influence public opinion, manipulate electoral processes and undermine international stability. In this context, journalism, institutions and the research world are called upon to urgently redefine rules, responsibilities and models of safeguarding information quality.

Derrick de Kerckhove, scientific director of TuttiMedia Observatory, outlined the boundaries of this threat, offering a lucid analysis of the current scenario: “The turning point in hybrid wars is cognitive: fake news no longer just seeks to deceive, but to break orientation. When a society no longer knows what to believe, it becomes governable by shock, fear, belonging. In this sense, the war has shifted. It now concerns the way we perceive reality.”

Data on Russian disinformation channels in Italy

To confirm the capillarity of this threat, during the conference, Diego Ciulli, head of government affairs and public policy at Google for Italy, Greece, Cyprus and Malta, also raised the alarm, integrating the analysis with precise numerical data on ongoing offensives in our country: “Every day our specialist intelligence team monitors 270 groups that we believe are affiliated with Governments, controlling their attack activities. Among these there are various types of offensives, but those related to the hybrid warfare linked to disinformation are truly very significant.”

We periodically provide figures on this: in the last quarter, alone on YouTube, we blocked 1,256 Russian disinformation channels in Russian, which are probably only the tip of the iceberg. We have blocked around forty channels indexed on Google News and on Discover that were targeted at Italy; they were not in Russian, they were in Italian, but they were organized and managed by the same operational centers.”

How Technology Counters Fake News and AI

What countermeasures are web giants taking against disinformation? Assuming that the real problem lies in how we perceive reality, technology cannot be only the cause of the damage, but must become the first solution. A concrete example of this new assumption of responsibility comes directly from the web giants. Concurrently with the debate on information safeguards, YouTube has announced a crucial turning point: the platform will automatically detect and flag content created with artificial intelligence. Until today, the streaming service had relied exclusively on the voluntary statements of creators to label algorithm-generated videos.

In an official note, the American company clarified the change of pace to ensure maximum transparency to users: “If a creator does not indicate whether he has used AI or not, but our systems detect a significant use of realistic AI, we will automatically apply a label.” Creators will still have the opportunity to challenge the labeling in case of error by the monitoring systems. The company has also specified that this control and classification mechanism will not in any way affect the choices of the video recommendation algorithm.

Even disregarding that it was a retaliation for the killing of 21 teenagers in a dormitory, the Saturday balance is proof that the Russians do not aim to hit the population. If they had wanted to, with 90 missiles and hundreds of drones they would have killed thousands of people. Yet, we continue with this delirium of Putin’s “cruelty,” angry Putin, butcher Putin, executioner Putin, etc. These are completely incoherent stereotypes with reality, in collision with every logical evidence. Moreover, I note that such epithets have never been seen in the newspapers for Netanyahu and for Israel, who have, indeed, sown, countless butchers, in Gaza, in Lebanon, in Syria, in Iran. No, non è Il Tempo a essere dotato di poteri straordinari di previsione e preveggenza, ma sono gli altri ad essere maledettamente prevedibili. Da giorni vi segnaliamo l'arretramento nella foliazione (ogni giorno tre-quattro pagine più all'indietro) delle notizie sul rischio del terrorismo islamico a casa nostra. 
Le notizie oggi sarebbero ben tre: l'attentato a Modena, l'arresto del mini-jihadista a Firenze, la condanna di un altro propagandista tra Cosenza e Catanzaro. 
Ecco: a che serve - mediaticamente parlando - l'operazione Flotilla? A far sparire dai giornali tutto ciò che ruota intorno al tema sgradito alla stampa “accogliente”.
E allora il gioco è fatto: sul Corsera tre pagine sulla Flotilla e nulla sul terrore islamista, sulla Stampa cinque contro mezza, su Rep tre contro una (ma a pagina 27), sul Fatto quattro contro nulla, sul Messaggero due contro nulla. 
A maggior ragione il centrodestra farebbe bene a riflettere: ha senso farsi trascinare dagli altri sulla narrazione più comoda e gradita per loro?

No, it’s not Il Tempo [newspaper] that’s equipped with extraordinary powers of prediction and foresight, but it’s the others that are incredibly predictable. For days we’ve been reporting on the retraction in pagination (three-four pages back each day) of news about the risk of Islamic terrorism at home.

The news today would be three: the attack in Modena, the arrest of the mini-jihadist in Florence, and the conviction of another propagandist between Cosenza and Catanzaro.

Here’s the deal: what’s the point – mediatically speaking – of the Flotilla operation? To make everything that revolves around the theme unwelcome to the press “accommodating” disappear from the newspapers.

And so the game is over: on Corsera three pages about the Flotilla and nothing about Islamic terrorism, on La Stampa five against half, on Rep three against one (but on page 27), on Il Fatto Quotidiano four against nothing, on Il Messaggero two against nothing.

All the more reason for the center-right to reflect: does it make sense to be dragged along by others on the narrative that’s most comfortable and welcome for them?
