As another user of germanic language I support this. It‘s shorter than „day after tomorrow“ (even if the movie of the same name would have a less dramatic title) and if it used to be a „proper“ word anyway…. #languageisfun

Interesting. To me, 'were' is already past tense, and 'are' is present tense. 'Wert' seems to be simply standing in for 'were', and 'art' is directly replacing 'are'.

Do we have any scholars of Middle English, or whatever period this came from? Or might these have just been 'prosodic choices' (chosen to fit the rhythm of the piece)?

@grayface_ghost @goatsarah possibly true. An American friend of mine, Charlie, toured Scotland playing jazz with a Scottish friend, Bill, who would translate for him if he had problems. They got to a village hall in the far north, and the greeting was incomprehensible to Charlie. He looked at Bill, and Bill just look back and shrugged. #LanguageIsFun

Heard my noisy #hedgehog again outside. What a relief. I saw a dead one 50m from my place and I feared it was the one from my yard.

I've only just now realised that the English term makes so much sense! It really sounds like a tiny pig in the bushes.

(🇩🇪 word is "Igel" - pronounced like "e" plus the first part of "gallon" - and I have no idea who came up with it as it bears no resemblance to any other word that I'm aware of)
