Catch of the Day: The 1MB Wonder! 💥💾

Hey Retro Fans!

The highlights of the day:

🪶 Off By One Browser: An absolute legend of minimalism visited us today. The Off By One Browser for Windows consists of a single standalone executable and is a tiny 1 megabyte in size. No bloated frameworks, no plugins – just pure, fast web browsing. It aligns perfectly with our philosophy!

🐉 Konqueror: The classic KDE file manager and web browser for Linux also stopped by. Just a reminder: This browser's engine (KHTML) was so groundbreaking back in the day that Apple used it as the foundation for Safari!

Whether it's tiny browser oddities or massive Amiga traffic – the Frog pond is buzzing. Keep it up!

🧵 So it turns out sharing files without #GuestExtensions between #macOS in #VirtulBox and #Linux as a host system is drop-dead easy.

You just switch on SMB file sharing in macOS (#Monterey in my case).

#Konqueror or other CIFS/SMB-enabled file tools can than access your virtual Mac effortlessly.

Simply reverse the game… not the host is the server, the guest OS is.

This of course works only in bridged network mode.

Funny that I didn't find this solution on the web.

I have been trying the #Konqueror web browser for a while (from #KDE @kde). It works pretty well so far. However, #Nextcloud @nextcloud complains it is not a supported browser each time I log in. I ignore the warning because I haven't seen issues so far.

@akkana

I'm not trying to pick a fight, but you can also just switch browsers. #Konqueror and #PaleMoon and #Vivaldi and more are just sitting there asking for your use.

I just tried the #konqueror #KDE #browser. It works for the type of sites I usually visit, but not for the general web, since it doesn't seem to have support for #uBlockOrgin. A shame, I stopped using it when the web became unusable on it :(
Is there a #servo binary I can try? I was one those that were still using #konqueror when #firefox was clearly the winner, and I want to feel that rush again.

Byt webbläsare till alternativ som exempelvis Firefox, Brave och Konqueror med flera. Fri och öppen programvara. De flesta använder Google Chrome som webbläsare idag. Det betyder att Google sparar en massa information om dig

In my "testing" #XFCE has been running very well with no noticeable issues. #Gnome looked good but ran slow and #LXDE had lots of glitches with the DE setup. I installed #JWM (have not tested) and plan to install #KDE to try out if available.

Web browsers are a very meh. #Dillo works okay, but is not great for "modern" websites. #Chromium (from Orange Pi) works okay but is very slow; standard Chromium is not available. #Epiphany was sooooo slow that is was not usable. #Konqueror installed but was missing dependencies to function. #Surf is working okay; good for basic sites but chugs on more demanding sites like Youtube.

Terminal apps all seem to be working fine. Simple apps like #GoodVibes and #Kpat work with out issues.

3D Games were not playable if they even loaded up. #Minetest opened but was like 1 frame per 3 seconds. #TuxCart installed but would not open.

So far on the #OrangePiRV2 the definitive winners are XFCE, Sakura (teminal), GoodVibes, Kpat, and #plank
