What's stopping directory authorities from being malicious and only accepting relays that they control?
What's stopping them from all colluding to do that, since they are (in Tor) hand chosen by the team and hard-coded into the binary?
Okay, yes, Tor users have to trust the Tor project anyway as they have a near monopoly on clients (except, I guess, for Orbot, which is being replaced with the in-house TorVPN anyway). But that just raises more questions.

@icedquinn Correction: #Katzenpost implements its protocols as a framework so it may be possible to use that instead of doing from scratch.

Still, hardly as simple as just using the Tor Controller protocol or I2P SAMv3

something that would be super cool is if @VeilidNetwork server node operators could install tor and allow #Veilid to socks5 its outbound connections through Tor out an exit relay before completing its path

but ofc that's all childsplay compared to pushing all #Veilid traffic through #katzenpost

that's one thing i didn't hear in the #defcon talk-- they dont seem to care about nation state actors, which is really weird

"would have to surveil the entire network" is legit misinformation/ harmful
