#KatharineHayhoe has an insightful take on the way the media uses opinion polls to undermine support for #ClimateAction. When you ask people to rank their concerns, immediate, daily issues always come out on top. This plays into the false dichotomy of environment vs 'real' issues.
#CBC interview just now as another example: "most people rank inflation, price of gas, groceries, housing ahead of climate, so those are the issues that we need to address first".
Which incorporates two lies: first, that people can't want more than one thing at a time; and second, that problems with inflation, gas & grocery prices, housing aren't fundamentally tied to climate.
The cognitive dissonance is most obvious in the contention that we can't take climate action because gas prices are too high
