A memorial to Joseph Black on the building named after him at Glasgow University. Black, who amongst other things discovered carbon dioxide, worked at the university between 1756 and 1766. During this time, he became friends with another University employee, the engineer James Watt, and provided both financing and support for Watt's ground-breaking work on improving the efficiecy of steam power, something which helped spark the industrial revolution.
