Roger GathmannI notice that there is a general uneasiness in the mainstream press about the parallel between the election of the House Speaker in the 1850s and now. But clearly, the Republicans of today are the heirs of the #proslavery groups of the 1850s. Not #fascist - #neoconfederate. In many ways, fascism was prefigured by #johncalhoun and the ideology of the superior white race.
