"Authorities said that those arrested β€” four men and six women, aged 26 to 43 β€” were suspected of conspiring to collude with the 612 Humanitarian Relief Fund.

The now-disbanded fund helped pay legal and medical costs for people arrested during the mass pro-democracy protests that rocked the Chinese city in 2019."

Hong Kong arrests 10 for 'foreign collusion'

Hong Kong police have been cracking down on pro-democracy activists and civil liberties since China imposed a sweeping national security law.

Hong Kong media say the city's No. 2 leader John Lee is likely to enter the race to succeed Lam. Chief Secretary Lee was the city's head of security during the 2019 protests and is known for his support for the police force during the protests and his tough stance against protesters.β€Œwww.npr.org/2022/04/04/1090734… β€Œ

Global Times this week has two dominant themes:

- How the Party successfully saved Hong Kong from "so-called democracy", how "CPC-led democracy" is in line with One Country, Two Systems and how low voter turnout is Good, Actually

- How the US will fail and China prevail because the US is like the USSR and China isn't, and how people swearing at the President is a sign of this decline and the uselessness of "Western-style democracy"

China warns UK not to offer citizenship to Hong Kong residents

The UK plans to offer a path to citizenship to many in Hong Kong after Beijing's new security law.

@jeremiah Not that anyone asked...

While I'm very sympathetic to the desire of Hongkongers for liberty and democracy, I hate seeing people attack the LegCo buildings. Rule of law is essential to human well-being; as Hong Kong's past demonstrates, with rule of law one can have freedom and prosperity, even in the absence of democracy.

Even in a narrow sense, sacking the legislature may be counterproductive. Beijing may crackdown, not back off.
