@ascentale @semitones #BikeNite A3 I've had two #hillTopper kits, one with 27in wheel circa 2013, and the more modern sprinter kit with 20in wheel on a supercargo. It's a limited speed (17mph in 27in) and simple throttle-only control (they also have pedal sensors on the bigger kits) but it's only 13lb and freewheels like a normal hub when not powered. The conversion is easy (add a torque arm but otherwise just getting the axle and cable oriented correctly.

Heat sink rigged up with a clamp (needs to be drilled & screwed to the baserunner), battery current limit bumped from 14A to 16A (52V) - 700W limit and 37Nm motor limit, seems to be a lot less choppy, but still stutters if I mash it quickly ( 🤔 which limit is graceful and which cuts to zero?) This is nowhere near the torque of the #hillTopper, but will have a lot more speed (13mph limit I think, never had a speedometer on it.) The idea is to add a crank drive for steep climbing: bbs02/tsdz2?

@ascentale #BikeNite A8 if I took a new picture it would be this one from inside of the #umbrellaBike as I'm back to working on how to get the 52V ebikes.ca g310 setup on this bike which has been running the 36v #hilltopper sprinter as a "temporary" motor setup for 3yrs now (this project got its rear gmac motor diverted to the tandem, which has done 600 miles since.) #eBikes #parenting (Outside of a bike, a book is a man's best friend, inside a bike is where kids read)

f'n around and finding out the g310 will run on the hilltopper controller, might get that bigger tire on it now and more easily transition to the other unfinished baserunner setup (#hilltopper 20in rim is too narrow for 2.5 Schwalbe pick-up.) #eBikes

@InkySchwartz @meganL @ascentale @WGH #BikeNite A2 front hub motor gives you 2WD but can also lose traction while climbing unless your bike geometry or posture specifically weight the front to compensate for the slope. A small kit like #hillTopper is easy to install but limited speed and power would require you to work harder on steep hill to keep the motor at a speed where it's effective. On slight hills it's fine and the slope doesn't affect traction much. A rear motor hub vs derailer 🥴😅😐
