LIPSIA (GERMANY) (ITALPRESS) – Crystal Palace wins its first international trophy, defeating Rayo Vallecano 1-0 in the Conference League final. Mateta’s goal early in the second half decided the match for the Eagles. The first chance came at the 25th minute and belonged to the Spanish team. Riad’s header was saved by the defense, and Alemao shot with his left foot from outside the box but the ball ended out. At the 35th minute, the game was interrupted for about three minutes following a medical intervention in the stands. Shortly after, Unai Lopez tried a precise right-footed shot from the edge of the box that just missed Henderson’s left side. In the dying minutes, the English team missed the potential lead. Wharton skillfully flicked a ball from three-quarters, Mitchell inserted himself with the right timing but shot wide just a few steps from the goal. The first half ended with no goals. In the second half, Glasner’s men started better and scored at the 6th minute. Wharton shot with his left foot from distance, Batalla saved it, but Mateta pounced on the rebound and scored into an empty net. Five minutes later, the British team missed the 2-0. Pino struck a free-kick from the edge of the box that spectacularly hit both posts, with Batalla saving the day. Crystal Palace dominated and at the 12th minute, Pino flew on the left and put a tempting ball to Mateta, who was however blocked by a providential Batalla. The Iberian team withstood the impact and tried to play from distance, but they really troubled Henderson. Rayo’s final push did not produce the desired effect and the result would not change. At the final whistle, joy exploded at Crystal Palace, who, in addition to the cup, also qualified for next season’s Europa League.
