Assume this is set in the relatively near future of the real world, ignore ethical or scientific questions of #AnimalUplift stuff, I just want to know what your character would be.

About This Account
This is the alt-account for Michael Collins (
@mike@cyberczar.org) dedicated specifically to my writing. You won’t find porn or pictures here. This space is for news, links, and updates about the stories I’ve written and the ones I’m currently working on.

A Little Background
I wrote my first story 26 years ago. It was the beginning of something I called
The Michael Collins Anthology, which was essentially a fictional autobiography. It wasn’t good. It objectively sucked. But I loved the story itself, and I still do. I keep telling myself that one day I’ll rewrite it or write a sequel. Maybe I actually will.

I am not a professional author, and I don’t pretend to be one. I don’t think my stories are good enough to sell, and part of that is practical: I can’t justify paying for professional editing and proofreading. That doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy writing. I do, and I’ve kept doing it anyway.

Some of my work is posted elsewhere as well.

On Writing and AI
I don’t write with AI. I do, however, sometimes use AI as a tool while writing, specifically to help identify plot holes, character inconsistencies, and continuity issues. In other words, the kind of things a proofreader might catch while proofreading.

If that bothers you, I’m sorry. You are, of course, welcome to volunteer as my editor or proofreader instead.

What I Write
I write the stories I’m interested in.

That often means science fiction, and if those science fiction stories include sex, so be it. I’ve also tried writing straight-up erotica and am still working on getting better at that.

More broadly, I tend to write stories I don’t see other people writing... stories that stretch boundaries, explore uncomfortable or underrepresented ideas, and focus on characters that feel real and relatable rather than idealized.

If You’re Interested
If any of this sounds appealing, you’re welcome to read my work at
https://mjcwrites.net.

You can also follow me here for updates on what I’m currently working on and what I’ve finished.

Thanks for reading.

Prime Video’s 95% Masterpiece Officially Resurrected Hard Sci-Fi for the 21st Century

Laila Elhenawy is a CBR Movies & TV writer who examines pop culture with an analytical, research-driven lens. She focuses on television coverage, blending her passion for storytelling with thoughtful perspectives that make her work engaging and insightful.

Beyond her professional writing, Laila is a devoted fan of TV procedurals, classic sitcoms, and early 2000s rom-coms. She also enjoys hockey, board games, and trivia, all of which reflect her love of strategy, creativity, and storytelling.

Here is a fact-based summary of the story contents:

When The Expanse made its debut on Syfy in 2015, no one thought it would change the face of modern sci-fi. It appeared as another slow-burn, dark-space drama, destined to be canceled after a couple of seasons. However, it is one of the rare hard sci-fi epics that actually feel exciting and human and entirely plausible. When Amazon Prime Video picked it up in 2019, it already had a strong reputation as television’s smartest space opera. What distinguishes The Expanse is not necessarily the ships or the effects. It is how it resurrects hard sci-fi for the streaming generation.

Long before “prestige sci-fi” became a thing, The Expanse demonstrates the fact that audiences have an appetite for complications: political intrigue, moral complexity, and world-building that requires your attention. It takes the cold mechanics of space travel, like limited fuel, zero gravity, and fragile alliances, and turns them into compelling high drama. Ultimately, The Expanse is a story about power and survival. The mismatched crew of the Rocinante gets embroiled in a conspiracy that could change the solar system. When picked up by Prime Video, The Expanse becomes streaming’s answer to Star Trek without the utopia. Instead, it leans into realism and hard truths, showing that science fiction can be intelligent, exciting, and, at the same time, painfully relevant.
