Your post made me realise I hadn't seen any of Hans Richter's films, so I did a little online streaming. Tonight's mini retrospective included the following:

The "Rhythmus" films featured moving and transforming geometric forms. I wondered what he might have done with colour animation (perhaps with a synthesiser soundtrack).
"Filmstudie" was about what I expected (kaleidoscopic eyeballs, thankfully with no razor blades).
"Inflation" portrayed Weimar-era monetary inflation. Would have felt like a kick in the gut at the time.
"Vormittagsspuk" was great fun. Just watch it!
"Alles dreht sich" is full of motion, and "Zweigroschenzauber" juxtaposes different moving images.
Each pre-war short film was interesting in its own way. Unsurprisingly, the Nazis found his work subversive and degenerate, and destroyed quite a bit of it. At least he got out alive.
"Dreams That Money Can Buy" (1947) is a full-length film, built from a series of vignettes (written and scored by famous artists who were friends of the director). It's an art film that follows from his earlier work, with little resemblance to larger-budget US films of the time (though there are corny lines spoken in American accents, and fascination with the subconscious mind). It's interesting and odd, but probably not to everyone's taste.
Thanks for pointing me in this direction!

I made use of my piece as soundtrack for "Ghosts Before Breakfast" (Original title: Vormittagsspuk), "a 1928 German dadaist animated short film directed by Hans Richter." (Wikipedia)
