Ship DSC - GMDSS
Received multiple distress acknowledgements on 2187.5kHz for a distress from a ship with MMSI No. 572286220. This is a chemical tanker "HANA I" located near Lat/long 4.935616° / -3.907417°. Nature of distress unknown.
A DISTRESS ACK is sent by a station (ship or shore) in response to a received DISTRESS call on the DSC channels in order to ACKnowledge the distress message and confirm that someone received it.
Spent yesterday on Low-tech ship comms.
Started with listening to #morsecode on 17MHz from KPH. Then I changed channels to receive #WeFax on 7MHz.
Moving onto satellite systems: sent a test message via #GMDSS Sat-C (600 bps), and ended with 4 emails being sent in about 2 hours at 4800 baud using a satellite dialup connection (VSAT).
Good times.
