On #ThisDayInHistory in 1919, #Ireland (once again) declared independence, and its #FirstDáil issued a declaration. On the same day, nine #IRA men attacked a #RIC convoy carrying #gelignite explosives that they could reuse. The #IrishWarOfIndependence was officially under way.

The saying that “Providence watches over children and drunkards” might be further extended to these days, as the following paragraph indicates:— #Skylarkers on the Summit road, near #Christchurch, recently pushed a piano case over several times in blissful ignorance of the fact that it contained #gelignite and detonators. The #explosives are kept in the case by the workmen engaged in widening the road. The culprits have great reason to be thankful that they were not blown to pieces.
