The Lonely Close, Dumbarton Road, Partick, Glasgow

Glasgow tenements were originally built in large, continuous blocks, but over time many have been knocked down, leaving exposed gable ends and sometimes even individual closes standing as lone survivors of what was once there.

Another great example of how to sympathetically fill in the gap left by the demolition of a tenement building. This one comes from Novar Drive in the west end of Glasgow and was built in the mid-1990s.

This is probably the best example I've come across of how to fill a tenement gap site with a sympathetically designed newer replacement. It's on the corner of Woodlands Road and West End Park Street, and was built (as far as I can work out) in the late 1980s.
