Update on the #FlaxToLinen project (pt 2):
The bundles have finished water retting! I'm going to leave them to dry for a few days, then we get to the fun part 😈
I submerged these in my pond for about three days. Cold water retting takes up to a week, but my pond is rather warm (~75F), so it finished much quicker.
Something they don't tell you in all the tutorials - when you pull it out of the water, it's going to SMELL like something that's been rotting in a pond 🤢
Update on the #FlaxToLinen project (pt 1):
I took advantage of a windy day to winnow the seeds - there's a solid tablespoon here! I'll still need to order more seed for next year, but this will be a fun addition 😊
I rippled the seed heads by hand, threshed them in a bowl, then poured them from one bowl to another a few times to let the wind remove all the chaff.
Overall, it was a very simple and satisfying process. :D

I had a dream last night that someone stole my entire crop of flax in the middle of the night.
I guess that means it's time to harvest?
