The word is Old
#NatalieMacMaster “In My Hands” from In My Hands, 1999
Lyrics:
Through your voice I hear your stories
And in these hands they become my own
And the old times and old memories
Call to life beneath my bow
Natalie MacMaster had a thriving performing and recording career of traditional #Celtic #fiddling when she dropped this seemingly incongruous #TripHop flavored, #turntablist-tinged #TonePoem onto her sixth album,in fact choosing it to open the album and to provide its title. But it only takes a moment to realize that this makes perfect lyrical sense; it’s a love song…to her fiddle (and under a minute for the beloved’s answer on the track).
Why did this countrified niche-star take such a turn in style - an attempt to reach a younger, wider audience? Perhaps she saw opportunity after cousin and fellow #CapeBreton fiddler #AshleyMacIsaac's "Sleepy Maggie" hit modern radio. But turn she did, making the old new.
Lilting #Fiddle (my #fiddling blog) has moved to become part of my main domain, while still maintaining its own #blog identity. Read about it here!

I enjoyed the #CelticMusic stage for brief time after my shift. Some great #fiddling #performers came to entertain the crowds at Victoria Highlands Games.
The association is holding their next big event on July 1st on grounds of Craigflower Manor.
Hey hey fiddle players, anyone done any online learning and enjoyed it? Something with beginner to intermediate levels. I'm pretty open to anything, it could be lessons with a teacher over Zoom or a whole program/school. I have a session to go to once a month now, and I'm excited to see if I can get a few jigs back in my fingers (am told to start with The Butterfly!). 🎻
