The Cult of Shiv server will be going down from 15:00 to 16:00 UTC (GMT) today (2024-03-26) for an upgrade by fedi.monster.
So when we all suddenly disappear, it's not more unplanned caused by a forgetful admin (me) this time 😅

FediMonster is going through a major platform migration. At first I thought it was going to be 5 minutes of downtime but that escalated to 6 hours and then 12-24 hours.
But it looks like it's working again as of this morning.
By the way, I am glad I don't self-host my own Mastodon server. I've heard it's very difficult to keep from falling over all the time, and upgrades are painful for the admin. Thanks to #FediMonster for keeping me on the fediverse hassle-free! 🥳

out of curiosity, how easy is it to run a small instance hosted by #FediMonster or #MastoHost? is there still a lot of admin work that needs to be done? i've never run my own instance so i literally have no idea how it works.

Our instance is hosted by Fedi.Monster. They're switching to a new funding model, whereby their finances will be hosted by a non-profit on OpenCollective.
It's now a pay-what-you-want model to accommodate folks.
