Faceblock campaign urges users...
Why?
Becoz!
@timbray wrote a blog piece about #faceblock as a case study
https://www.tbray.org/ongoing/When/202x/2023/06/24/Fediverse-Governance
"Most Fediverse instances are run by a single person who has essentially dictatorial control, usually a software professional who did the work to set the instance up"
which shouldn't be huge surprise, but worth putting into words.
(fedidb used to track the total amount of users and MAUs from the instances that signed the #fedipact, but apparently @dansup removed the tracker.)
What's your threshold for medium/large? Of the instances I know are on the #faceblock, the instance I'm on has a couple thousand users and ~400 MAUs, and mastodon.bida.im has 20K users and 1.6K MAUs
Your prediction: Will's Meta’s “Threads” product actually engage in ActivityPub-based federation, or will that idea be postponed and eventually forgotten?

Meta is poised to launch a new app that appears to mimic Twitter, marking a direct challenge to the social media platform owned by billionaire Elon Musk. A listing for the app, called Threads, appeared on Apple’s App Store, indicating it would debut as early as Thursday. It's billed as a “text-based conversation app” that's linked to Instagram. The listing teases a Twitter-like microblogging experience. Instagram users will be able to keep their user names and follow the same accounts on the new app. Threads could be the latest headache for Musk, who has faced backlash over new daily limits on the number of tweets that users can read.
