Can these words about our history be said in schools and universities today? In many pulpits?

Leonard Black was a Baptist pastor who escaped slavery. “Slave-tyrants” will stand before the Almighty bar of retribution. He quotes Thomas Jefferson, who said he trembled for his country when he realized that God is just.
In contrast, today, it seems that nostalgia for slavery is making a comeback. The divine bar of retribution is now held over the heads of those complain of injustice.
How can you speak out against stupendous wrongs?
Charles Spurgeon, particular Baptist, on sham conversion. England took credit for being Christian while forcing countries to import opium at gunpoint. And it had the worst record for irresponsible alcohol use. This means ya ain’t converted, mates.
Do we want godly credit for 100% obedience, but only for the favorite virtues we think we can pull off?

Growing up without access to most popular culture means that there are still many cultural touchstones I haven't yet caught up on. Earlier this week, I watched The Matrix for the first time. I have not stopped thinking about it since. I've watched clips of my favorite scenes and behind the scenes YouTube videos, read some articles...

Tonight in #therapy we talked about Religious Trauma Syndrome (#RTS). It was a *rough* session. Rough.
I've been going to therapy every week for 3 years now, peeling away layers and digging deep. Tonight my shovel hit something solid: The Church. Specifically, the evangelical church. The source of emotional vacancy in our family.
Grief. Anger. Trauma. Unacknowledged harm on so many levels.
Tonight was rough. Goddamn.
