First attempt at a #MastoPrompt. Was even more fun that I had expected.

Best friends forever, the children had sworn. Little did they know that the further the threads weaving their friendship together stretched, the thinner would they become. And the more difficult to discern through the ever-growing tapestry of their lives, until no trace of the #erstwhile sister-soul could be picked out anymore.

Echoes of the classic myths
Carved in a different alphabet
Under the heat of a Mediterranean
Sky.

What once we were,
In the battles' mirrors,
Untouchable and immortal,
Happy rushing blood and flesh,
Gone.

What once we were,
Statues of us sculpted from
Precious stones quarried out of
The groves in the sacred mountain,
Truth.

What once we were,
Gods and angels,
Winged fates,
Kindnesses.

It was inconceivable how #erstwhile lovers, friends, partners could #inflict such pain upon each other. She could not wrap her head around it.

How would she ever trust anyone again?

Well, she thought, perhaps I'll start with myself.

Fading like a setting sun,
Lost in time's embrace.

"Then you're wrong again," grumbled the barbarian, but only to himself.

The sky,
a tumult of silver-white wool,
opens — I am surrounded
by unseen apertures
through which angels and ghosts and
erstwhile emotions drip like honey.

The clouds
are thin places, and I
am a thousand souls at once,
swollen as a thunderhead,
ready for the heavens
to be reborn
in a roadside puddle.
