Just a heads up that a number of Mastodon servers are getting flooded with bot sign-ups that look a bit more sophisticated than the usual. For Mastodon.NZ it's pretty trivial for us to tell they've got nothing to do with Aotearoa and reject them, but more general servers may have a harder time distinguishing them.

I'm speculating this means we may start seeing more spam and/or scams and/or some kind of misinformation coming from other servers at some point. No immediate cause for alarm but keep your sceptical hats handy and if you see anything dodgy please block-and-report.

Israel violated the ceasefire agreement at least 1,193 times from October 10, 2025 to January 9, 2026, through the continuation of attacks by air, artillery and direct shootings.

Israel shot at civilians 384 times, raided residential areas beyond the “yellow line” 66 times, bombed and shelled Gaza 551 times, and demolished people’s properties on 192 occasions.

Consider how loud the outrage would be if Hamas had violated the ceasefire just once.
