Richard RathePictures at an Exhibition performed live by Emerson, Lake & Palmer was the album that brought me back to classical music at about age 15.
Written for the #piano, it was famously orchestrated by #Ravel. I've heard it performed once and have several versions on mp3. Perennial favorite! 👍
At the top level it is Mussorgsky's emotional journey as he walks around an exhibition of artwork by his recently deceased friend Viktor Hartmann. But there are captions for most/all of the works, so it is also a recursive tale with stories within stories. 🙂
Some of the original art is lost, so the musical renditions are all we have left. 🙁

Airplanista 🇺🇦Today is the 10-year anniversary of keyboardist Keith Emerson's death. I consider myself lucky to have seen ELP at Selland Arena in Fresno when they were touring Brain Salad Surgery.
While many protégée kids can knock out Vivaldi at 8YO, Emerson could slay on his Hammond organ with his left hand and simultaneously blow the entire world's musical minds on his Moog synthesizer with his right hand. His skills were SUPERHUMAN!
