History of #infrared #ellipsometry
(Cleaning and organizing the lab today)
After lurking on the outskirts of the fediverse for almost 2 years, I think it makes sense to post an #introduction.
My name is Premysl (Prema) Marsik (he/him) and I am a physicst #physics working in the field of optical spectroscopy of quantum materials. I specialize in #THz and #infrared #ellipsometry on thin films.
I am building ellipsometers and writing software for them #c #programming. I am working on an #opensource framework for optical data acquisition, processing and analysis.
COLLEAGUE: Hey, you told me to do all of my measurements on thermally-grown SiO2, not native oxide. Why?
ME: It won't work if it's not on TOX.
COLLEAGUE: But why is that the case? Do you have a reference?
ME, thinking: ...I know why, and I can probably explain it, but I don't have a reference beyond, "this equation probably explains it, good luck solving it."
FINDING JOURNAL REFERENCES FOR THINGS YOU JUST KNOW: ALWAYS A JOY.
