New York Mets fans vented their anger on Tuesday after learning that All-Star closer Edwin Diaz had agreed to a three-year, $69-million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/sports/2025/12/10/baseball/mlb/dodgers-sign-edwin-diaz/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #baseball #mlb #edwindiaz #newyorkmets #losangelesdodgers
Mets fans fume as closer Diaz reaches deal with Dodgers

The deal was widely seen by fans as a case of the big-spending Dodgers further consolidating their advantage.

The Japan Times

The only thing I ask of the new Dodgers bullpen arm Edwin Diaz is that he not celebrate with his teammates during next year’s WBC.

I get that the loss of #edwindiaz sucks a lot of joy of this season for baseball fans, and especially for #mets fans. But does it really sink the Mets’ chances? As great as Diaz was in 2022, wasn’t he worth only about 2 WAA? Would an average closer cost the Mets more than a couple of games?

Nitpicking you can say #EdwinDiaz wasn't injured playing #Baseball; he was injured celebrating a win.

It's too much to ask people not to celebrate.

I also don't understand the gripe that #EdwinDiaz shouldn't have been injured playing #Baseball for anyone but his MLB team. Diaz getting injured playing baseball is more acceptable to me than athletes getting injured at hobbies far outside the sports they're under contract to play. #JayWilliams' motorcycle crash comes to mind. #ChicagoBulls

Just a quick shout out to fans of the #NewYorkMets and #PuertoRico. The news of #EdwinDíaz's knee injury hits hard. The guy is insanely talented and mowed down a powerful Dominican team 1-2-3. Division rivalries aside, this #Nats fan hopes for a speedy recovery and return to form.

Looks like this will be the only way for me to get my #EdwinDiaz fix this year.

Díaz to undergo surgery for torn patellar, could miss season

Díaz was expected to undergo surgery on Thursday and the timeline for such an injury is around eight

#WFAN's #SalLicata is griping about #EdwinDiaz getting injured at the #WorldBaseballClassic. If Diaz hadn't been there, he'd be at Mets camp and might have been injured there. Same bad luck.
