What I Learned at EDUCAUSE about the Higher Ed AI Conversation(s) Part 3
The final (?) entry where we talk about access, costs, and equity with generative AI & higher education
AI + Education = SimplifiedI just did a simulive session at the
EDUCAUSE Annual Conference & one of the attendees happened to be someone who was at my first-ever keynote presentation for the Lilly Conference back in 2019. Her kind words (below) totally made my day! 💛
#EDU23 #LillyCon @educauseCompiling, analyzing, and structuring content for courses. How are faculty members using AI to accomplish more and save time?
Join Jeff Selingo, Charles Isbell, Jr., Andrew Maynard, Lilach Mollick, and Ben Breen to discuss live, on Oct. 26: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/3816963468427/WN_nGPrDzVfQiKmDn5wSA2ePw

Welcome! You are invited to join a webinar: Applying AI to Improve Courses, Teaching, and Learning . After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the webinar.
In this period of experimentation with generative AI, the potential for new ways to gather, organize, and refine content for courses seems unlimited as do the possibilities for personalization for students. Multiple tasks in our daily work can be automated, and we can deploy tools to serve as personal assistants. How have these opportunities been applied to designing, constructing, and teaching courses?
During this Office Hour, we’ll examine emerging approaches in how faculty members might use AI to save time, enable deeper engagement with courses, and unveil new learning opportunities for students.
Among the issues we’ll discuss, along with input from the live chat:
✅ How have faculty tested using AI to create syllabi, package content from multiple media formats, and build student assignments?
✅What’s involved in selecting tools, and organizing processes to be sustainable and efficient?
✅What’s the student experience like in a learning environment that's shaped by AI?
Panelists:
-Andrew Maynard, Professor, School for the Future of Innovation in Society, Arizona State University
-Charles Isbell, Provost, University of Wisconsin-Madison
-Lilach Mollick, Director of Pedagogy, Wharton Interactive
-Benjamin Breen, Associate Professor of History, University of California-Santa Cruz

What I Learned at EDUCAUSE about the Higher Ed AI Conversation(s) Part 2
More of the things I've learned & been thinking about
AI + Education = SimplifiedI missed
#educause this year, I am sorry that I missed seeing friends, but I was very interested to read Glenda Morgan's reaction. There are few people in
#edtech that I trust more. It sounds like it was a bit of a mixed bag, but I could have gone for a Chicago style hotdog.

Educause 2023 Conference Notes
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.
On EdTech NewsletterStarting week two of a two-week+ conference circuit (my first real travel since COVID), and what I've noticed most is that I've lost all my time management skills!

@bryanalexandee I'd be very interested in hearing/reading your account of the AI discussion at EDUCAUSE.
#EDU23 @massonpj @educause Thank you for helping to make it an awesome conference!
#EDU23 Thank you @educause for a great event and all your hard work in planning and presenting #EDU23 / #Educause23. The staff were great, the sessions informative, and the community inspiring.

My favorites:
1. Partnering with existing OSS Foundations and pursuing collaborative efforts
2. Participation in OSS and grant programs.
I'm looking at you #HigherEd, #EdTech companies.
