@thomas Die Rolle der #EDES und ihres Anführers #Zervas während dieser Aktion und auch nach dem Sieg über die Nazis war allerdings größtenteils eine zweifelhafte:

So hatte Zervas zunächst gar kein Interesse, sich am bewaffneten Kampf gegen die Wehrmacht zu beteiligen. Er willigte erst ein, nachdem ihn die British Special Operations Executive (SOE) mit 24.000 Gold Sovereigns bestochen hatte.

In der Nacht vom 25. November 1942 sprengten die Widerstandsorganisationen EAM und EDES die Brücke von Gorgopotamos in die Luft. Der Erfolg der Aktion behinderte unter anderem für mehrere Tage den Nachschub der deutschen Truppen in #Nordafrika, hatte aber als Symbol für die Möglichkeit des Widerstands gegen die vermeintlich übermächtige #Besatzung höhere Bedeutung.

Die #Sprengung der Brücke war auch ein Fanal für den massiven griechischen #Widerstand gegen die deutsche Besatzung. Die Hauptkraft der #Partisanenarmee, die #ELAS unter Aris #Velouchiotis, hatte zeitweilig mehr als 120.000 Mann und fügte den Besatzern erhebliche Verluste zu.

"Velouchiotis steht auch heute noch ganz im Zeichen der politischen Landschaft Griechenlands. Von den #Linksradikale​n wurde er für seinen Widerstand gegen die #Nazis ähnlich wie Che #Guevara oder Ho Chi #Minh in westeuropäischen Ländern zur #Symbolfigur erhoben." (...)
