Ebi Soda is a Brighton-based jazz quintet that works in the nu jazz style, drawing its inspiration from acid and krautrock, with an undercurrent of electronic ambient and prominent drum 'n bass elements laid on top. They particularly stand out with their playful genre-crossing and lightness in their approach that is paired with the jagged and angular beats. Drummer Sam Schlich-Davies forms a center of gravity for the band with his breakbeats, while Will Heaton's trombone focuses the shifting moods in their pieces like a lens, ranging from harsh and brassy to muted and soft. They are a tight ensemble with high levels of musicianship at every point and a cornucopia of contemporary music influences that flow through their work.
