Pediatric allergists at the University of Colorado followed 298 children 4 to 11 years of age in their phase 3 study of so-called epicutaneous immunotherapy. The Viaskin Peanut Patch delivers 250 ug of peanut protein, and over 90% of the children were able to wear the patch for the entire 5 year study period. The children’s level of tolerance to a stiff peanut protein challenge of 1000 ug rose gradually as they wore the patch. After one year, one-third of the children tolerated this challenge but that figure tripled by the study’s completion. I try really hard to avoid #KinkShaming, yucking anybody's yum, or being judgmental about other people's #kinks. But there are definitely some sexual practices and peccadillos about which I am habitually silent, because saying "eww..." is hurtful, and it's about all I got.

I am, however, happy to report that the #desensitization effect of 20 years of sex blogging operates continuously, if slowly; even after two decades, my list of silences continues to get smaller over time.

I realized today that after working in several restaurants years ago and raising a kid who's now 16, there's NOTHING that can gross me out anymore. I've seen and smelled it all. If you want to desensitize yourself to gross stuff, do one or both of these things.

All child drug addicts, and all children drawn into the narcotics traffic as messengers, with whom we have had contact, were inveterate comic-book readers. In the lives of some of these children who are overwhelmed by temptation the pattern is one of stealing, gangs, addiction, comic books and violence. The parallel with crime comic stories is striking.
