A flashback to July when I went to the dollar store and they were charging $3 for a guide to a defunct website.

The next week I was at a different location of the same chain and they had Animal Crossing officially licensed notebooks with a 2021-2022 calendar inside.

Got this unused crepe polyester shirt at a vintage market. It was so fresh the manufacturer’s pins were still in. And look what I found in the pocket. Thanks, Connie!

This week I'll be cutting out a dress and jacket, co-designed with the Mom of Groom, using the #satin #jacquard from her mother's #wedding dress and some lilac #silk her son - the groom - brought her years ago from a trip to Thailand.

So, #upcycling at it's best, reusing every morsel of this lovely ivory - and she's going to dye it to complement the lilac! And while it travelled the world, at this stage, it's become #deadstock as it is at least 5 years waiting to be made into something...

I'm cutting the pieces and handing them off to her to dye, then I'll get them back to begin the assembly...

Photo only shows some of the pieces as they are split amongst 3 segments of skirt .

This one was fun to make. I made this dress from #deadstock material using a subtraction technique (bottom portion), which creates unpredictable results. #fashion #design #small business #chicago #photoaday

Every time Fabcycle has a #fabric drop I read the listings like a novel.

Like, it's great that they sell diverted landfill waste and #deadstock and it's great that their fabric descriptions and photos are super accurate, but I am mostly on their mailing list for the fabric names.

Finished the hoodie! pretty pleased with the results. The entire thing - hoodie and the sweat pants I finished the other weekend are deadstock fabric. End of the roll, saved from the dump. Zipper is from an old favourite hoodie that had been loved so long it reached end of life.

From my humble collection ... A very rare pair of black Levi's redlines from the 80s. I bought these deadstock about 25 years ago at a flea market for 2000 Japanese Yen (about 15 US$)! #selvedgedenim #blackjeans #blackdenim #blacklevis #redlines #deadstock #nos
Some more deadstock vintage buckles, as my workload is keeping me from doing any sewing.
Two regular-size and two tiny Paris buckles.
The regular size is for 27-mm straps, the tiny size for 20-mm straps.
I may use the tiny ones for kids' jeans or Buddy Lee-style miniature jeans someday.

1950s Walker's Round Up Rider Pants
A few words about the denim used on these 1950s jeans; Kingcot denim, the same brand of denim as was used on the 1930s pair of Snag Proof buckle back jeans I posted a couple of months ago.
Kingcot was a brand name owned by a Canadian manufacturer of cotton products established in 1881 in Hamilton, Ontario, as the Ontario Cotton Mills Company. Besides denim, the company also produced flour bags, shoe lining and carpet yarns. During its history the company underwent several name changes and reorganizations, but as evidenced by this pair of Walker's Round Up Rider Pants, it was producing Kingcot denim at least into the 1950s.
The denim used for the 1930s Snag Proof buckle back jeans was marked with a red "Kingcot" stamp every half yard on the backside of the fabric, but the denim on this 1950s pair is not.
The sticker that was attached to the left back pocket designates the denim weight as "10 oz" in the old designation of ounce per yard of fabric, which corresponds to about 12.5 oz in today's designation of ounce per square yard. The right-hand twill denim is sanforized, but not pre-skewed, so there is a fair bit of leg twist to the right. It was woven on narrow-width looms, and therefore has selvedge on the outseam edges of both the front and back panels, but the selvedge seams are closed and overlocked, a detail which I quite like.
