Worth getting up early for. 27 bird species and 5 red squirrels. Good info from Jonathan and thanks to Anne for leading.
I’m getting up tomorrow morning at the same time that I went to bed last night!
We’ve booked ourselves on the 4:30 Dawn Chorus walk with Sustainable Kirriemuir. The weather looks good, albeit cold (1°C). Let’s hope the birds have got the memo.
Woken early by the riotous hoodlums* making a racket outside my window. Inconsiderate neighbours don’t care about my desperately required beauty sleep, pah!
(*birds. I mean birds)

If you missed the dawn chorus on International Dawn Chorus Day, you can go to the Knepp webcam, where, at 20.47, Pa Stork is serving supper on the nest and there is a fine soundscape of bird song.

The International Dawn Chorus Day is coming up this Sunday on May 3rd!
"There is no single dawn chorus, but the harmonies of hundreds of bird voices at first light change from place to place in a huge wave that surfs around the world as the planet rotates."

May is the zenith of spring, when the soft pinks and pastel yellows of early wildflowers set off the waters of ponds, coasts and marshes to perfection. With many of our summer migrants having arrived already, now’s the time to set the alarm clock and make an early start to catch a wetland dawn chorus. Breeding season is in full flow and our wetlands are starting to fill up with broods of oystercatchers, redshank and lapwing chicks.
