#DataCite Schema 4.7 is available ⤵️

Supporting DOIs for Presentations and Posters
As suggested by community members, we’ve added new types for Presentations and Posters to the resourceTypeGeneral controlled vocabulary. These additions will make it possible to consistently distinguish these important output types that are integral parts of the research life cycle, helping harvesters to pick up presentations and posters and boosting discoverability and impact.

Get Started With Schema 4.7 - DataCite

The DataCite Metadata Store includes metadata for over 100 million DOIs, enabling discovery and citation for a wide range of research outputs and resources. The DataCite Metadata Schema is designed to be easy to work with and flexible, accommodating a range of resource types.  DataCite regularly updates the DataCite Metadata Schema to better represent community use cases and respond to community feedback, supporting the creation and reuse of high-quality metadata.

Persistent identifiers in the Datacite metadata schema: recommendations from the French consortium

This document was produced by a working group of the French DataCite consortium led by INIST-CNRS. It complements those produced by the consortium's other working groups (Metadata, Scope, Economic Model, Media, Awareness and Training, and Communication). The aim is to provide some guidelines on the choice of persistent identifiers that can be declared when creating DOIs in DataCite and associated metadata. It is intended for publication managers, particularly repository managers. These recommendations are only indicative, as the landscape of persistent identifiers for research is constantly evolving. They are aligned with those of the MESRE (Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Space) regarding persistent identifiers.

How permanent are metadata for research data? Understanding changes in DataCite metadata

Abstract. With the move towards open research information, the DOI registration agency DataCite is increasingly used as a source for metadata describing research data, for example to perform scientometric analyses. However, there is a lack of research on how DataCite metadata describing research data are created and maintained. We address this gap by using DataCite metadata provenance information to analyze the overall prevalence and patterns of change to DataCite metadata records. Metadata change was observed for 12.18% of metadata records in the sample, and change tends to be incremental and not extensive. DataCite metadata records offer reliable descriptions of data sets and are stable enough to be used in scientometric research. The rate of change differs from previous studies of metadata change in other contexts, suggesting that there are differences in metadata practices between research data repositories and more traditional cataloging environments. The observed changes do not seem to fully align with idealized conceptualizations of metadata creation and maintenance for research data. In particular, the data do not show that metadata records are maintained routinely and continuously. Metadata change also has a limited effect on metadata completeness.
