The Bombus rupestris is a species of cuckoo bumblebee. It landed on my knee next to a sleeping cat on my lap.

Die Felsen-Kuckuckshummel ähnelt der Steinhummel, weil das ihre Wirtsart ist. Auf dem Foto ist sie gerade auf meinem Knie gelandet neben der dort kringelnden Katze. Beide störten sich nicht aneinander.

Sofia Dartnell has been investigating how cuckoo bumblebees find nests to parasitise. Impressively, in flight arenas they choose an obscured box with bumblebees in over empty controls 64.2% of the time (chance = 25%). Just found this little girl wet on the lawn. Just the wrong time of the year. She should be tucked up in a nest hibernating. 🥲Popped her on a sheltered calendula out of the rain and fingers crossed she refuels and makes back to a nest. Think she is a Queen Buff Tail but the wings are quite smoky so maybe a cuckoo? I’m not good enough to be sure. #britishbumblebees #bumblebee #entomology #BufftailedBumblebee #CuckooBumblebee.
