On ne réalise pas toujours qu'un cerveau a dû agir un jour pour qu'existent certaines des actions les plus basiques du quotidien. Par exemple, le «copier-coller» : il a bien fallu que quelqu'un conçoive cette fonction très pratique permettant de reproduire ou d'éditer du texte sur un ordinateur. Il s'agissait, apprend-on de son ancien employeur Xerox, spécialisé dans les imprimantes, de Lawrence (dit «Larry») Tesler – en collaboration avec un collègue de Xerox, Tom Mott. Il est mort lundi à l'âge de 74 ans, laissant derrière lui d'autres inventions, comme le très pratique «chercher et remplacer».En 1980, Tesler a quitté Xerox pour Apple, qui l'a employé dix-sept ans à partir de 1980, le promouvant finalement chef scientifique. Sa fameuse commande est entrée dans les mœurs grâce à son installation sur l'ordinateur Lisa en 1983, puis sur le Macintosh l'année suivante.(Photo Ann E. Yow-Dyson/Getty Images)
