Browsing the website of Italian synth and organ maker #Crumar I found this #plugin (also) for #Linux: A digital re-creation of their 1979 #CrumarPerformer #synthesizer.
In the early Noughties, I had owned a rotten #Godwin #StringConcert, which was even more limited. It was so noisy, the band bought an analog noise gate rack unit only for this thing…
There were a number of these #StringSynthesizer things, most prominent the #ArpOmni2 used by Pink Floyd. Their string section usually was fully polyphonic. There was a set of 11 oscillators on the highest octave and frequency dividers would shift these down to all other octaves. Of course, it didn't sound like proper strings, but it made the sound of the notes interact in a very particular way. Some models, like the #Performer, had a monophonic brass section, too.
All the plugins you see in this video are for free. So for that price I won't complain!
